Background
The Kiribati Institute of Technology was established in 1970, with its major purpose of providing skills that are needed by industries including the public service.

KIT Composition

Senior Management Team consists of;

1.Expatriate Principal (Leadership)
2.Expatriate Operations Manager (Teaching & Learning)
3.Plus two - I-Kiribati Deputy Principals (MLHRD)


KIT Training Schools:

1.School of Applied Technology (1 Head of Department)
2.School of General and Informal Studies (1 Head of Department)
3.School of Public Administration (1 Head of Department)


The institution is now align its curriculum with Certificate 1 & 2 within the Australian Qualifications Framework, particularly with the Trade areas and with a view to Certificate 3 access being provided through the partnership of another Australian Registered Training Provider (RTO), which may include the Australian Pacific Technical College (APTC)

The duration of training courses is 3 years:


Electrical  Trade 1.Certificates 1, 2 & 3 Electrotechnology  Systems (Electrician)

Automotive Trade

1.Certificates 1,2 & 3 Mechanical Trade,

2.Certificates 1,2 & 3 Mechanical Technology
Engineering
1.Certificates 1,2 & 3 Engineering Mechanical
2.Certificates 1,2 & 3 Fabrication
Carpentry & Joinery
1.Certificates 1,2 & 3 Carpentry
2.Certificates 1,2 & 3 Joinery

B) School of General and Informal Studies :

The duration of training courses is 3 years:

Information & Communication Technology
1.Certificates 1, 2 & 3 ICT - to Diploma

English Language

1.Certificate levels and standards to be determined against international requirements e.g IELTS 5.5

Mathematics/Science
1.Support to trade & vocational areas (standards to be assessed)
Commercial customized Short-courses - FFS
1.Demand and needs analysis to be undertaken. However many of the courses offered at KIT could be modified for short FFS activity, e.g Microsoftsuite, Accounting, Small & Marine engine maintenance
Community Education Programs
1.Language, Literacy & Numeracy Horticulture, Household Budgeting, Basic Building Techniques - cost recovery
Labour Market Programs
1.ILO - SYIB, KIMEO Programs, Basic Health Care & Child Care etc

1.including career and employment advice/services
Staff Development Programs

Some alumni Graduates in the area of Carpentry apprenticeship have managed to obtain jobs in the construction industry in New Zealand.
